Over the years, I’ve slowly skipped over Tyler Perry’s films, as, although entertaining, they lack substance and depth. Films such as Why Did I Get Married or Diary of a Mad Black Woman are essential in his catalogue as they ask and answer pertinent questions, highlight significant aspects of the Black American experience, and showcase comedic moments throughout.

Joe’s College Road Trip resembles what we’ve seen from Tyler Perry in recent years, and it certainly strays from the greatness of the films I previously mentioned. At this point, I know what to expect, but this film certainly had its shocking moments.
